Referring back to the first post - I understood that Johnathan Kerringham was asked to be on the panel as he played a gay character even though he wasn't. It could be the same for Russell.

The judging panel was brimming with gay icons, Danny La Rue, Jonathan Kerringham, ‘Sam' from ‘Casualty', Russel Porter, ‘Tim' from ‘The Britas Empire', and, Scott Neil and Tameka Empson - stars of ‘Beautiful Thing'. The judges certainly had their work cut out as the competitors were hot, hot, hot and there were 27 to choose from. Following on from what Zusi has said, Scott 'Neil' (It's Neal) was asked to judge as he played a gay character in The Bill (UK police drama which I believe broadcasts to Australia too, on some channels). He is most certainly not gay. And I can't believe that I didn't notice his name appearing here, as Luke Ashton (his character) was the whole reason that I started watching it... And still is, even though he left two years ago But yes, I seem to have rambled slightly. Scott Neal isn't gay, so you don't have to be gay to judge it. But he does seem to get typecast as gay men (in both of his starring roles, The Bill and Beautiful Thing), so it's probably the same for Russell, gay or not. ... Okay, I really rambled there, sorry. *Shuts up about favourite actor (Scott Neal)* *Stops pimping Scott Neal* No, but seriously. Rawr. *Goes away*

that was my thought too, that just being involved in a thing like this, is definitely no confirmation. Come on, the guy played a brilliant character, who was gay. That's enough for him to be involved in it right there.

I have heard rumors that he isn't totally straight - but who knows for sure Well, in the official book (The Bill) there's a little interview thing with him at the back and I believe it says that he isn't. But then in another interview he said that he "wouldn't say for sure", so who knows.
