If TBE hadn't ended with 'the dream' what do you think they'd all be doing now or what would Series 8 have been like?

I didn't notice this topic! Why not? *looks outraged*
Cool question...I'd have liked to have seen Laura back. Obviously.

I keep thinking they should all be on their way to their future careers shown in "In the Beginning" but that was set in 2019 so there's still 13 years for that to happen! So...
I think Gordon would still be running the centre. Helen would probably have left him, had several disastrous flings, been sectioned, got out, then gone back to him! Colin would have finally proposed to Carole seriously and she and her brood of children would be at his house (possibly with more Colin-spawned offspring!) Tim and Gavin would have stuck it together and been legally joined last December, despite Gavin's apprehension. Gavin would be mad at not ever being offered his own centre to manage but would have risen above Colin to full Deputy Manager. Julie would still be secretary but by now married to some local crime boss, she always preferred the dodgier male... Linda would still be desperately seeking her own storyline, but would still be the eager chirpy (heading towards 40!) girl she always was. Edward would be pushing 80 but still up for it.
And as for Laura, well, she'd have hopefully come to her senses and realised Michael T Farrell was a fool, she and her son Barney would have fled America, later divorcing her way to a small fortune. She'd have returned to Whitbury and comforted Gordon during Helen's absence, only to be sidelined once more when the Britasses reunited. I predict a fight to the death...

I like you. I really like you. Aye. It's not often a gem like yourself strolls in, bringing joy with you... We say this because, Simon dear, we've gone mad lately with the lack of decent conversation. Thank you Simon. Don't run away, thinking we're deranged. We're just....grateful....

Same here, indeed. And with alot of the others too.
I haven't actually watched Brittas OR Red Dwarf for about 5 months. Seriously. Oh no, she lies... Saw 'Blue' [Red Dwarf] the day I got my Series 7 DVD.

I think the prog makers may have got some things right - or at least, there are some things I can imagine happening. I can believe that Julie somhow met someone so unbelievably different from herself that they would have fallen in love and got married, so she could have ended up with a chelsea tractor and dogs etc. I can also believe that somehow Brittas managed to clamber up some more rungs of the ladder and is now in charge of some sort of European sports thingy - as Laura (I think) says - rules, regulations and small print - Europe was made for people like Brittas! (I also fear he would have something to do with the upcoming 2012 Olympics... ) Timothy I can imagine being some sort of celebrity chef - and I can definitely imagine him writing a book about the centre! No one would believe something so far-fetched was true, of course... And yes, I think he would have married Gavin, who quite possibly wouldn't have been completely comfortable with such a public display of their love. Perhaps they would have invited everyone from the centre...including Brittas... I've always imagined that once Tim was some sort of celeb, and money wasn't so much an issue, Gavin would've given up his management streak and instead focussed on helping people. Quite possibly still in a sporting environment. I've always thought that maybe he would have re-trained as a physiotherapist or something. Laura would definitely have come back from America, with no MTF. He may well have given her a whole lot of money though, because now he had a son and would inherit the business, he'd want her and Barney to be comfortable. I think she would stay in touch with him too. I'm trying to imagine what sort of job she'd have gone for...something where she got to organise people, I'm sure. Maybe organising sporting events...a job where she would still meet Brittas, just not have to work for him anymore ;D Helen, once the children were grown up would have to get herself a job...probably one that involved meeting a lot of other men. Of course, as Gordon was away meeting up with Laura all the time, no one really loses. Colin I can see having his own drain cleaning business, and I totally agree that he may well have got together with Carole, who probably is now a music teacher (Colin will have made her a machine to accompany her when she needed it, along with lots of things to help with the kids.) And poor Linda...as you say, probably still enthusiastic, still with Edward...we really don't know much about her, do we? Have I missed anyone? xx

Elf, I *love* your suggestions, I'm quite envious! I'd love them all to be running around doing these things, I think the perverse side of my nature wanted them all still to be stuck in Whitbury hating each other! An update tv special would be nice, although too similar to "In the Beginning" I guess. Maybe a naff "Are You Being Served" spin-off like "Grace & Favour". No, actually, I think I'd watch it and hate it!

Lynda would have joined the Church. I think S5 aired around the time the Anglican Church / Church of England started accepting women to be trained and ordained as Vicars. Not only did TBE have a non-camp (dare I say ordinary) gay couple, but they were reflecting the changes taking places within Britain's State Religion and the equality of women who feel called to serve God.

I know! Who'd have thought that overall Brittas displayed such positive role models!

There were some negative ones. Carole's child care arrangements; Colin's natural remedies; and of course Gordon's management! A balanced mixture.

See, I'm not so sure on that, okay, I'm not going to say Carole was a great mother, but she struggled as a single mother of 3, kept her job (a miracle in itself) and if we believe "In the Beginning", the kids grew up to be alright in the end!

True, but Carole could have applied for housing as she was homeless and had 3 children. Everyone said she shouldn't have children in drawers, even Social Services in S5.
