Well, I've had a really, really awful week, so my S7 DVDs arriving before I expected - I'm in Australia, they had to traverse half the globe! - cheered me up remarkably. Especially as "Surviving Christmas" is the one episode I haven't seen recently, so it was practically new. I need to squee to people who will understand. I used to hate Helen, and now she's one of my favourites. This episode shows why. She is so brilliantly psychotic - and hypocritical. Poor Carole. The way Helen stares at her in hatred all through the briefing gave me so much joy. And the pizza! So freaking cool. Even if she did make my darling Carole cry. I loved actually seeing one of the much-mentioned forced singalongs, too... And Tim at his most hysterical, in both senses. And Gordon really is sweet. My favourite moment, though, is predictable: Apologies for the poor image quality, but... kissing! Protective tender comforting kissing on the top of the head! ~melts~ After the depressingness of S6, where they not only don't seem to be a couple, they don't even seem to like each other all that much, this made me terribly happy. I love Gavin when he's all protective. Well, I love him always, but... If I'm right, this was the first episode of S7 to screen, right? It seems like almost a calculated attempt to make up for S6. It seems a terrible risk to be doing that in front of Gordon, given his expressed Views, though. I've never met the straight male Pom who would kiss a friend... at least in public.

i can't say i've seen the christmas episode. What happened? They have all gone away for a survival team building weekend and are due back on Christmas eve. The usual Santa arrives and finds there is no grotto for him and is miffed. Colin's given everyone homemade christmas cards - Helen opens the one for Gordon which is just signed C and thinks it's from Carole, then assumes Gordon and Carole are having an affair. She decides to attend the staff only survival weekend. The ex SAS bloke in charge is paranoid about people being after him from his army work. He is also annoyed by Gordon who's done a teambuiding course and won't let him forget it, and tries to take charge at every opportunity. Basically, Helen is trying to kill Carole over the non-affair with Gordon. 'Santa' is trying to kill Gordon. Gordon gets them lost - blaming the map for being wrong! There is someone setting traps for the group and attacking them. The instructor thinks these are for him, but they are likely to be Santa aiming for Brittas. Tim and Gavin are getting on better than in S6. The events are scaring Tim and he's alway looking to Gavin for comfort. Julie is not present, but as she's still pregnant she probably managed to get out of the survival course as it wouldn't be too safe for her or the baby - however, she's not mentioned at all. Everything gets resolved in the end when Helen accuses Gordon about the affair, shows him the card and Colin reveals that it's the card he sent to Dynorod which must have been put in the wrong envelope. They do manage to get to the correct spot for meeting the instructor. Unfortunately he's fallen down a latrine and died. The Santa falls in bog and they get rescued when the pizza delivery company manage to call back on Gavin's new mobile which had sporadic signal. If any of this makes sence. It's still a good episode.

Yep. S7 as a bonus episode.
It's set in Wales so there's a token Welsh local. My only complaint is that the bog is pronounced with English pronunciation not welsh. In Welsh there is no letter V, but there is a V sound which is associated with the Welsh letter F (F sound, by the way is associated with the Welsh letter FF). So Felin Bog would be pronounces Velin Bog. Mind you, it turns out to be Welsh humour - the first English visitor Fell In!

i think i'll order that dvd next. does it have the bloopers on it or is that series 6? Think it's got S4 bloopers, but then again the S4 bloopers could be a bonus on S6 (to make up for the bad series).

The series 6 DVD has the series 4 bloopers. It was the one series I wasn't going to buy on dvd until I found out about the S4 bloopers! I love Surviving Christmas I especially like Dame Judi Dench's brother Jeffrey playing Santa. So theatrical and luvvy-ish ;D Colin's Christmas cards are great as well - "whenever I need a little prod, you're always there with your great big rod..."
