Hi Inking:
Oh, so YOU'RE the one who bought my book! (just kidding...sort of). Thanks so much for those nice words.

I really enjoyed the other segments of the book too, by the way. Just it was the Brittas bit that personally stuck out in my mind. Everyone always has nice things to say about Ab Fab. Great job.

I first saw the show in my hotel room during one of my visits to London (I've been there several times over many years). I didn't know a thing about the show, but in less than a minute I thought it was hilarious. At the time, though, it wasn't being shown in the U.S., so I forgot about it. When it finally did air on my local PBS station, it triggered my memory and I was very happy to have a second chance at seeing it.
I wrote my book because I wanted to do something constructive with my hundreds of videotapes of Britcoms that I taped ever since my family first got a VCR back in the early '80s! I thought that I had better tape these British shows because they could be taken off the air here and disappear without warning at any time. Thankfully, they haven't, but I my tape collection kept growing.
I think the show actually improved over time, and many sitcoms aren't so lucky. I loved how Laura had that vague kind of crush on Gordon, but she knew that he was too moral a man to cheat on his wife. He instead trusted Laura as a friend and confidant. But once in a while she'd give him a look that would make ME melt. He just never had a clue!
And, of course, Julia St. John was perfect for the part. She has the most gorgeous eyes and smile. And, in my interview with her, she demonstrated an impressive knowledge of comedy, and how a show like "Brittas" needed a character like Laura to be the center of sanity when everything around her was falling apart. She compared Laura to Polly on "Fawlty Towers", but let's face it: Polly wasn't much of a character at all, not fleshed out the way Laura was. And Connie Booth did not do a very good acting job throughout that series--she had her moments, but they were few and far between. Laura was a much more vital character on "Brittas." I've always thought of Julia St. John as Chris Barrie's true co-star on the show.

Hey Garryb! Welcome to the forum it's nice to have you with us! I hope you stick around and post. We don't bite, honest! ;D And okay... wow! That is sooo cool you included Brittas in your book and you said great things about it. I live in England so I've not read your book but if it is available in England these days I may be tempted to have a read. And now I'm going to shamelessly pester you for advice. I am a writer. Well... I'll rephrase that. I want to be a writer... any tips? It's sooo hard to get started in this business. Am I just wasting my time? Any words of wisdom you could give me would be fab. Thanks! ;D So anyhoo, like I said, I'm pleased you decided to join us. ;D Who's your favourite character? I'm going to guess and say Laura? I'll give you one guess at who mine is. ;D

Just got directed here, and it looks like an awesome place to be. I got into Chris Barrie from watching Red Dwarf (although for some reason its Cat and not Rimmer i constantly quote) and fell in love, then started watching Brittas when Australian tv finally decided to show it. I think hes a very, very underrated comic actor who should be given a heck of a lot more credit than he is right now. Im working on a Chris Barrie fansite too, after looking around on the net, the address is www.chris-barrie.net , at the moment its just a splash page as i have no graphic ability to create a layout. I think there are far too few Barrie websites and there should be many more to appreciate the man! At the moment im trying to find all the images and info that I possibly can, i dont want to make it the "biggest" site or anything like that, but one that fangirls like me can well...fangirl over it. But definetly addicted to the man! Looking fwd to meeting all of you.

Hi xacerimmerx! Welcome to the forum, I hope you like it here.
Your website sounds cool, and I think it's a very good idea as I don't think there are actually that many websites dedicated to Mr. Chris Barrie. I hope you find some good information and stuff on this forum, I'm sure there will be random bits that will help you. Or if you just ask I'm sure someone on here will be able to help out. There are lots of photos of Chris in the Chris Barrie/Gordon Brittas section. Good Luck! ;D

Hello and welcome to the forum! I'm glad you came over here (I'm queen_fiend from LJ). Have fun and post lots! Oh, and I have a fairly recent interview with Chris Barrie if you're interested (it's audio only). I could probably upload it on here or something...

Hello there! I used to love Brittas Empire on TV years ago, but completely forgot about it until a few weeks ago when my other half downloaded the first 2 series, so now I'm completely hooked! I absolutely adore Gavin & Tim, & can't wait till I finally get to see the other series (& a Christmas special apparently). Is there any really great episodes for me to look out for? My most hysterical moment to date was Brittas singing at the piano with Tim & Gavin. Priceless.

Hi! Welcome to the forum. ;D
There are many, MANY funny Brittas moments for you to look forward to. There are two Christmas specials, a 1995 one and a 1997 one. My favourite is the 1997 one, it really is hilairous.
I love Tim and Gavin too. They are my favourite characters. ;D;D
