yeah, this'll be my fourth Nano. I've only actually managed to do the 50,000 once though. The last two years I've just not had enough spare time. I blame work entirely.

National Novel Writing Month. Thousands of people around the world attempt to write a 50,000 word novel. In a month.

www.nanowrimo.org/Is the page for Nano. It's not national, it's international, you don't write a novel, cos 50,000 words does not a novel make...more like a novella, but you do write, and it does take place in a month - every November, in fact. It's a whole lot of fun. Where I live, a little city on the south coast of England, we have meet-ups in coffee shops where everyone in the city who's taking part tries to spend a few hours together each week to see how we're all doing. It's a great way of getting some writing done, meeting up with new people - whether in RL or on the forums at the Nano site. And if you don't make the 50,000 words, then at least you've written something. xx

well, it's supposed to just be a draft, so, when you go back over it later, you'll probably fix stuff up and it'll end up longer! it's a novella, technically, but, it doesn't really matter. And originally, it was 'national', but they just called it that at first because it was funny. Some guys just started it up in 99 i think it was.

Absolutely no topic at all. You can write whatever you want - even fanfiction It really is all about fun. xx

yeah, you can write fanfiction, but of course you'd not be able to get that published unless it was fanfiction of like... a fairytale or a book that doesn't have copyright anymore. But, if that doesn't matter to you, or you want to only publish it online, go for it!
Oh, they do like you to write fiction though. but i think creative non fiction can count too.

Hey, I do fiction. It's all I write.
Just debating what topic I should do. I can't do Brit, I've only seen 12 eps!

I'm doing NaNo this year. Why. Why? I don't have the time But oh well. Was going to do it last year but forgot. *Sigh* Maybe doing it will shake off my silly block. I'm a fanfic writer, and don't generally like writing fiction, but... Not long to go until it starts now. *Tries to shake off writers block*

I've already started. I have 1,800 words as a start and a very sketchy idea. Hopefully everything will fall in place as I write.

you're not supposed to start until November. That counts as 'cheating'.
