you're not supposed to start until November. That counts as 'cheating'. Cheating? Cheating at what? Since when was it a competition? I can't delete it all now though, it's good!

No, of the story. It's 6,800 now... ...I'm not supposed to start till Nov 1st am I? hee, ah well, it's not as if you're defrauding anyone! You'll just have to make sure you write 50,000 MORE words now, in November - the only person you're competing with is yourself! The idea is that you write, that's the only real aim of Nano. Good luck with the rest of it! (I don't even have my plot worked out yet! Argh!) Elf xx

Well, it's cheating against the wordcount counters. Yeah, you'll have to write 50,000 more. The thing is, you're supposed to not start until November, and also it has to be a new project, ie, one you haven't written on before.

Right, I'll give up then.
Why? ALL of my ideas have been written before in another of my random stories.

ack! Don't give up! That's the last thing you should do!
Honestly, it's not as if you win anything (except a little icon thingy if you validate your wordcount in time), you just get a bunch of writing done, fun chatting and help with plots - should you need it - through the forums and a general sense of wellbeing (or severe lack of sleep, one of the two).
There are people in my city this year who are continuing last years Nano this year - yeah, it's supposed to be something new, but really, who cares?
I've failed miserably to write 50,000 words at all for the last couple of years, so this year I'm going to try and write something that's part-based on fanfic characters (Gavin and Tim, actually, although you probably wouldn't know it if I didn't say) and it's an idea I've had for ages, and almost started trying to write before, but it's never got going. I'm going to use the opportunity of having people around me writing and pushing me on to try and get 50k of it done!
Keep writing! And visit the forums for some encouragement ;D

I'm not saying you should give up. I'm just saying what you're 'supposed' to do /not do. Heh, i know some people who decided to edit their work over nano instead of write it. People got soooo p issed off seeing their wordcount! I have bits that were inspired by Gavin and Tim too!

I've decided...
The story I wrote (over 7k in wordage now!) is a sequel.
Nov 1st I'll get the sequel and copy and paste to another document. Edit that, then add the bits of the sequel I've done now, edit that slightly. That way I'll have about... 19k in words (don't hurt me!)

^ cool, good plan!
I think we need some dares for members of this forum to do, based on the conversations on the forum, or based on The Brittas Empire (but we can't really directly quote it too much, or there would be copyright issues) Can anyone think of any?

yeah! On the nanowrimo forums, they have 'dare threads'. People dare each other to include things. They may be funny or serious or random or whatever. Or it could be more like a 'challenge' rather than a dare. You don't have to accept them, it's more 'if you're stuck, why don't you pick a dare and try to write about that in context of your story'
an example for us might be "Include a character somewhere, who though he always tries to be healthy, has horrible health"

Thank god. My mind jumped to the conclusion we'd dare someone to do something if they didn't reach over a set no of words...
