I've heard of it, but I've never actually seen it or anything. What's it about?

Well, it's a romantic comedy soft sci fi series, made in the 90s, and it was quite long running. It's about a man called Gary Sparrow, who is married to a woman called Yvonne. He loves her but they have quite a few issues. One day he walks down an alley way... and comes out the other end in the second world war. It takes him a while to accept but once he does, he's thrilled by the whole concept. In the other time period, he meets a married woman called Phoebe whose husband (it wasn't a happy marriage anyway) is away in the war, and though he's not deliberately looking to cheat, he falls in love with her. (over time).
So... it's basically about his life as an adulterer/bigamist/time traveller, and his two romantic interests. He has a friend in the present who he's told about it, and who prints him counterfeit money and lies to his present day wife for him. And in the past, he pretends he's in the secret service, thus using his modern knowledge and technology. He also pretends he's a song writer, by using modern songs. In the present, he ends up running a memorabilia shop, selling things he collects from the past, and when he's in the past he's at 'trade fairs'. All the lying doesn't come without a cost however... It's not a 'hilarious' show, it's romantic comedy style, it's all very light. But I really like the concept and the story.

Yeah I quite like it. Its not up there with brittas etc but its ok.
I used to like it when he wud sing a Beatles song or something in the pub and they were all enjoying it lol. It was 20 years early to be singing Beatles songs!!!!
I reckon it probably fizzled out a bit but it was an ok series

Yeah I used to watch it! The girl who played Phoebe is in 'Casualty' now and Laura from Brittas was in that too, so I hear. I love the character of Reg.

If she was, I haven't seen her. Though I think I saw 'Carole' the other day but I wasn't sure. Yeah, poor Reg. I think it's lovely. It's a totally different thing to Brittas, (doesn't mean it's better or worse) and really well done. Gary's mate was called Ron.
