Oh yeah. Gavin always backs Tim up. Even when they're arguing. Like when Tim refused to tidy the cupboard, Gavin did it for him so he wouldn't get into trouble. Or when Tim went off to buy leather trousers, Gavin lied and said he had the flu. And when Gavin went to get the mushrooms, he went against Brittas' orders.
I think there was one in series five, but also series one when Brittas said that Gavin was out drinking with a good looking man. I love that scene where Brittas and Tim get on. I don't think Brittas hates Tim, and don't think Tim hates Brittas, but I do think Tim hates Brittas' rules and stuff. But you can see he doesn't hate Brittas when he waves banners in the protest to get Brittas back.
I think Brittas juts thinks Tim is overly sensitive.

I'm not convinced Brittas does like Tim - I think Tim makes him uncomfortable & he's hard on Tim as a result - there's one scene (no idea what it's called - it's in a series I haven't yet bought) in the one where they're doing the disaster training & Tim & Gavin have put the stretcher with their casualty on it down & are talking to Carole who wants to put a bet on a horse, then Brittas comes round, sees them skiving, & only tells Tim off - Gavin gets off scott free. And there's the really, really mean shrug he does when Gavin's parents have no idea who Tim is. And when they're playing The Game when Brittas mentions redundancy he looks right at Tim. I'm not sure it's over sensitivity he dislikes in Tim, it's what he thinks that over sensitivity equates to.
But (about to totally contradict myself), I think they do have a sort of mutual understanding - I always think it's quite sweet of Brittas to suggest Tim shares a room with Gavin (in GFRIP) because Gavin's depressed. It shows Brittas thinks Tim is sensitive to other people, & that he thinks he can & will lift Gavin's spirits. And, Tim is union rep & yet he rarely calls action against Brittas, despite the often ridiculous things Brittas makes them do. It's also tim not Gavin who wants to stop Larry from killing Brittas.
Incidently - any idea where Tim & Gavin know Larry from?

Why on this earth, in Brittas' view of the world, did Gavin dying make Tim go crazy? Does he think Tim has this whole unrequited-love thing going on for Gavin? I could talk about these things forever. I really think he thought that, from series 1 we know Brittas knows Tim is gay and he almost warns Gavin in ep 6 and it carries on all through the series. When Brittas thinks Tim is a girl he says "all that time with Gavin" as to say I know you fancy him. And of course Tim told everyone Gavin was kidnapped by pirates and calling him on the phone etc. in GFRIP What I really hate about that ep is Julie takes the piss out of Tim right before the funeral saying last time she heard it was vikings or something I think I may need to rewatch some of these episodes. Oh I think you should, they are all so good ;D Of course after I watched them I had to make a vid, I have no impulse control

Have you uploaded the vid yet? *goes and checks*
I do think Tim and Brittas have a mutual understanding. I still think they don't hate each other, I think they just both like to dislike each other. They wouldn't let each other get hurt ut they take verbal shots at each other all the time.
I totally agree about the Julie thing. She knows all about Tim and Gavin. How could she be so cruel???
Brittas calls Tim a 'left footer'. Then when Gavin asks if he means gay, Brittas says, 'Whao. I wouldn't go that far'. It's hard to tell what Brittas thinks really. He probably just thinks Tim is on the verge of 'becoming gay'.

Brittas is a funny one, like in series 6/7 when Tim freaks out that he doesn't get paid as much a little later instead of firing him (he had every right) Brittas finds a way to pay Tim more money.
It's funny because you never know what he knows and why he does things, he might have been being really petty with Tim when he found out his real last name or he might have been being really nice in a sneaky way.
You just never know with him, at some points he makes it really clear that he knows people think Gavin is gay and tells them he isn't and then at other times he is completely ignorant about the whole thing.
At least during series 1 - 5 we have Laura to help translate for him.

Yes exactly. And it works both ways, when Tim and the others weren't speaking to Brittas for some reason or other, once Brittas saved Colin's life by sucking out the spider poison in him, suddenly Tim was like his best friend and couldn't do enough for him.
OMG! You're so right. I automatically think petty because it's Mr. Brittas and he follows each rule without any bending of the rules... but he could have been doing Tim a favour.
Laura was cool, she always put Brittas in his place. I think maybe Brittas had an inkling about Tim and Gavin, but didn't want to admit it to himself because he didn't want to 'deal with it'. I mean, I could just see him finding out the truth and sending everybody on some kind of course on how to treat everyone the same, when the only person who's making a big deal out of it is himself.

How do you do quotes? I don't have a button that says Quote on it. (I'm on a Mac, does that make a difference?).
I'm not sure to start with Brittas was doing Tim a favour with the surname thing - he didn't know Tim's surname wasn't Whistler & he did make Tim think he might not have a job there anymore. But admittedly he did just give Tim the job again without making him really grovel - I always think there's quite a lot of affection between them in the interview scene. Tim knows he's in the wrong & Brittas knows he doesn't want to fire him, & they skirt the issues.
I think Tim is smart enough to see that Brittas' heart is in the right place, & vice versa, but their relationship deteriorates when the possibility of Gavin's promotion comes up, because Tim is jealous.
I always think it's a good job Brittas didn't go to Brussels - can you imagine Gavin as manager & Tim as deputy. It'd be a nightmare!

I think the quotes option is in the long reply not the 'quick reply'. You have to click reply on the end of the message to go to the big form page.
Gavin as manager and Tim as deputy? As much as I hate to say it, I think the center would fall apart, in particular when they argue. Tim wanted to be a chef. It would have been nice for him to get that job properly instead of just cover work.

The long reply way doesn't have a quotes button - where exactly is it (in case I'm being a bit thick & not seeing the obvious)? I have icons, Tags, smilies - maybe I went wrong when I registered......?

I have icons, Tags, smilies - maybe I went wrong when I registered......? On every single post that I see here there is a quote button, if you hit it you go into reply with the post you selected in a "quote" box I'm not sure about anyone else though, I'm also really not sure about types of computers but on mine it is just above each post to the right, above the line but below the other line that is the last post

Oh yeah! There it is. It's along the top where it tells you the date and time of the post.

I don't have it - I'm feeling all left out now.......
Nothing I click on gives me the option, & there's nothing that says "quote' on it. I thought I might be able to copy & paste (or the bizarre combination of keys that is the Mac equivalent) instead, but I don't seem to be able to do that either.
Oh well. Sniffs sadly.........

You can do a quote manually with these tags: [*quote] Paste what you want to quote here [*/quote] But remove the stars. You guys have got an interesting discussion going on here, I'll have to go back and read the whole thread before I can reply properly.
