In my recent quest for all things Barrie, I managed to find two things on DVD. Most of the others from his filmography are not available or very hard to get hold of, I spent a lot of time online and in shops looking!!
Anyway, the two I found were: 'The Young Ones' series 2 and 'Filthy, Rich & Catflap' series 1. The former was very brief and you couldn't see him very well - very dark episode (lighting and content wise)...but still instantly recognisable and had me still going, 'Ahh, look how young he is - only 24'!! Older than me at present but still....
The second however is thoroughly satisfying for a guest apperance. He's in the episode for quite a long time playing this great character and i've already watched his bit three times - even though I bought the DVD whilst away so was only able to watch it from yesterday afternoon onwards! He's not only very fit, young, interesting and funny, but so damn talented and does such a great character. He keeps going into these different accent-lets (my way of describing flecks of accent!) and there's some great shots of his face and arms in lots of detail. I love the script though, and by that I mean the words as said by him. They're not necessarily hilarious lines or particularly special, but when he says them...well, it's just scrumptious!! Especially his use of 'darling' or 'darlings'.
For anyone out there contemplating buying a whole DVD for a guest appearance in one episode (seems a bit silly I know, but I can't help myself!!!) then this one is SO worth it. The DVD was pretty cheap, but still seems a bit grandiose for a series you've never seen - but, as I said, this is really worth buying.
The series itself I actually really liked too - made more sense to me than some of 'The Young Ones'. I'm not dissing TYO or anything, I just found it a bit hard to get into. Think that's just because I wasn't used to it. I don't think I ever actually watched the show before - before my time you see - and although I liked 'Bottom' TYO is even weirder than that, and takes a bit of time to get into. I'll admit too that some of the socio-political comments and references went a little over my head as when the show was made I wasn't exactly aware of much about society's problems or popular culture...being a baby when the aforementioned episode was made for example!!
Well, that's the end of my review - which I suppose this is after all - so to summise: it is a great little snippet of pre-RD Chris to delight all fans, so buy it!

P.S. Anyone else watched this? I really want someone else to concur with me how scrummy it is!!!Love seeing him get all riled up, and snapping pencils too...with a nice tan....loverly!!
