I remember it being on, I was playing on my bike when the first episode aired (memory too good). My mother watched it as far as I know, and it wasn't amazing.

In the minority here - I remember it *and* have a few episodes on video. (And while Xylona was biking, I was simultaneously watching APAM and doing my Maths homework, lol.)
It's not quite as gut-wrenchingly bad as critics would have you believe. I've seen much worse sitcoms quite recently... I think the main problem lied with Chris' character - he just wasn't remotely likeable. There was nothing that *didn't* irritate you about the man. With Brittas, you know thatdeep inside he has a heart of gold and is only trying to blindingly do what he thinks is best for people. And with Rimmer, there's the sympathy vote becuase he's really just an emotionally-repressed loser who wants to be loved. But Gary Prince - meh. Doesn't even have a decent hairstyle (nice suits though ;D).
I adored the other characters though - dippy Sonia the receptionist, the posh public-school bloke whose name I can never remember, and Beverly - who's now in Coronation Street as... Beverly.

Chris was a wealthy and spoilt ex-footballer who went on to run a business with his German wife.
Put that way, I wouldn't be surprised if they ran out of plots. Mind you, look at the amount of stuff that happens in a leisure centre ;D

Minty off Eastenders was in it too I think.
The only little bit I've seen of it is the BBC1 trailer that was on advertising BBC's autumn shows that year (1997?) and I saw Chris and thought "Ooh I'll have to watch that" but never did. The reason I said it wasn't amazing is cos my mam watched the first episode, then never watched the rest. So I took it as given that it weren't the bestest show. But I'd still like to see it myself *knows she never will, cos.. well it's not gonna happen*

I really really want to see it, but because it wasn't as good/popular/whatever as Brittas (Or RD, but, that's just... yeah) they'll never release it on DVD, so I'll not really be able to... Grrr.

I HATE knowing there's stuff out there I can't get to. It's this dreadful itchy feeling, even when I know it's probably dreadful and that I wouldn't like it if I had it. Keep Fit with Brittas, for example...

oh i feel the same way with so many things... i worry that things will be lost forever. Like the Goodies episodes for example. The BBC LOST them somehow!!!

How many did they lose? Did they end up in Australia? When I was a kid the ABC played the Goodies every night at 6 pm. I've just been introducing my little brothers, already rabid TBE fans, to the joys of Twinkle the Giant Kitten.
But I feel your pain. So little of season 2 of Dad's Army was recovered. ~weeps bitterly~ And I love the early seasons the best.

most of it was lost. there were MASSES of episodes, it's a cult show, and they've released what, 10 of them?? It's very upsetting. It's why we're campaigning to get Maid Marian and Her Merry Men out on dvd. or vhs for that matter.

Were the Goodies episodes actually lost, though, or just not released on DVD? Foxtel here are showing *years* worth of episodes, including black and white ones. I remeber reading a while back that the Goodies was rarly or never shown in the UK after the first run, while it was a staple on TV here in constant repeats.
But ooh, yes, I'd buy Maid Marian in an instant.

yeah, lots of people would buy maid marian in an instant. it's genius. um, i'm not sure. My friend who likes The Goodies and reads up about them says that masses were lost. as in, erased or something.
