Upson scanning my TV guide for next week, I came across this:
THE WALK
Nicola Stephenson expected that filming this week's new ITV1 drama, The Walk, about an arduous charity hike across the Sahara desert, would have some tough moments. But the former Holby City and Brookside star got more than she bargained for, when a few mishaps led to her being stranded in the desert for real, with nothing but a camel for company!
The Walk, penned by Monarch of the Glen writer Michael Chaplin, sees Nicola playing one of the fundrasiers, Christine. In remission from cancer, Christine heads into the Sahara for a four-day trek with nine fellow hikers, including her husband Eddie, and their best friendss Lawrence and Karen.
It soon emerges that, on top of dealing with the strain of covering 100km in the blistering heat, Christine is struggling with two secrets that could blow the lives of her husband and their friends apart.
Over the past few months,Christine has become close to Lawrence, who also has cancer. The pair have found themselves united by their illness and have embarked on a clandestine affair. But things come to a head when unsuspecting Karen catches them toogether.
'Karen tried to keep it to herself until the hike's over,' explains Nicola, 33. 'But she can't help confronting them. Christine's so upset, that she blurts out that her breast cancer has returned, before running into the desert alone.'
Things rapidly get worse as Christine becomes caught in a sandstorm and night falls. With no food or water to sustain her, the goal of completing the charity walk is the least of the group's worries.
This terrifying situation was driven home for Nicola when she had to film the scene.
'I was dropped off by a helicopter in the middle of the desert,' she says. 'I had nothing but a bottle of water, a walkie-talkie, a compass and a camel on stand-by to rescue me if needed. As the helicopter flew off, I realised that the walkie-talkie didn't work. Then I climbed up a sand dune for the first take but, as they circled round behind another dune, they lost sight of me.
'I was sitting on top of this dune feeling totally disorientated. Everything looks the same in the desert. When they finally returned, I have never been so happy to see a helicopter in my life!'

Judy is playing Karen, the wife of the man who's having an affair. There's a small picture of Judy, and a larger one, I'll scan them in and put them on.
In one she looks quite good, and in the other she looks really sad/angry.
