In the first episode when we first see Gavin, he has a yeallow Sweatshirt wrapped around his shoulders... what do you think this suggests? I normally don't like to generalise or stereo types, but usually when I see people like that on telly I usually think they belong to some kind of posh country club. Was this just the fashion at the time, or do you think it's how Gavin dresses and shows more of his background?

I think a bit of both. It WAS a quite 90s thing to do, along with wrapped around the waist, but it also has always seemed pretty posh... or gay. No offense. I don't mean that gay people do it, i mean that tv and movies often have gay people doing it, so you connect it... it's not very accurate as far as I know. But, it also does just look... posh. Oldfashioned. And so I think it's mainly a statement about Gavin's personality, but also some of the 'era' as well. You later on, in other episodes, see other characters doing it.

yeah! I was thinking it was probably just a way for the writers to show Gavin's personality without alot of dialogue. I think it also gives us the idea that he's from an upper class background too.

yeah, dont forget he went to privete school (and i think it was bording school) so its probably to show that a bit, not saying all kids do that if they go to privete schools but you know what i mean, also i think i may have seen tim where his like that so it could be a gay thing (without trying to be streotypical)

oh yeah thats right he did go to private school. Yeah I think it helps to capture his character alot even though it is abit stereotypical.

I don't think it's a 'gay' thing as such, I think it's more... tv shows make gay characters do it to hint to the viewers that that's what they are. Since it implies some sort of ... neatness I guess, which is a stereotype. The other option would be to tie it around his waist. And that'd crease it, or get it dirty. But, it's also about personality anyway. And the whole not wanting to crease it is also a posh thing. And Tim probably just reckons it's a good idea. He looks more like a tie around the waist guy, but he's probably copying Gavin or something. I'm sure I've seen Laura do it as well.

another stereo type of this kind of dress code, i'd say is kinda nerdy...

which kinda shows that he was keen in school... which is why it's probably more fitting for Gavin to become management rather than Tim.
