exactly. I think the 36 bit is total rubbish. I tried to work this out too.
ETA: especially when you look at the timeline of the show itself... and how long the centre is supposed to have been open for (something else i think was a huge mistake... ), and other clues like that.

yep. If i ignore the whole 'he's 36, the centre has been open for ------ years, so he was ------ at the start of the show, he was 19 when he got engaged' thing... if i ignore the 36, or say the 36 is total rubbish, it makes SO much more sense. 36 is too old in my opinion.

I'm a chronic geek about this sort of stuff...but being totally discalculate I can't even begin to try and work out how old he's meant to be when...hell, I had to ring up my own father at a job interview once to ask how old *I* was. They obviously either wrote the show for people like me .. or people like me wrote the show Elf xx

If you ignore the 36, and work out the age from the 'front' (ie from the first episode, and hints about Jenny etc), and with logical times etc, and then how long the show would have gone on for (because i also find it hard to believe it was 7 years... ) by looking at the time lines etc... he's not 36 in that episode.
