yeah, 21 or 22 in the first episode, but i ... doubt, that Tim is only 17 there. I'd imagine more like 19. Tim doesn't act like a 17 year old would.

yeah so 5 years tops is probably a good marker... Gavin could pass for about 20/21 in the first episode, and Tim, I don't think he's 17 in it, I think 18/19... definately younger than 20 tho.

definitely 'tv' 21 years old though lol. Sort of like how in Grease they were supposed to be 18 and were actually 30... you get used to it. Real life, no way does a 20 year old look like that. But, in tv land... he could definitely be 22 in the first episode, and Tim be 18 or 19. I *know* that it happens, and that I have friends (female friends...) who are with guys older than them, like, 26 or so, and they were only 17 or 18 when they first met. But... knowing the characters, I just can't see that happening here, especially since Tim's living with him. So that's why I'm pretty sure that Tim's not a minor still. But, young enough that he doesn't mind wanting to go back and live with her in Cheshire. So, that's why i reckon 19... and Gavin, 22, in the first episode.

Um... Well, not necessarily in the first episode. I always assumed they were, but it's vague enough that lots of things could be happening. Because all that they really say is that they want to be free on certain afternoons because they have 'a lot in common and get along really well together'. Now, they might not necessarily be living with each other to want that. Definitely they're together, but not necessarily living with each other. Or, they could live with each other and even with other room mates or something, because you don't know how long they've been together, and you dont' really hear a mention of their house for quite a while... But, I personally think yep, they were living together in the first episode.

Yeah, well if we are assuming Tim is about 18/19, then I know people of that age move into their own flats with serious relationships, but if Gavin only 'came out' recently after his fiance left, then would they be so quick to move in together?

Well, we don't know how they met. I don't think that Gavin was two timing or something. And... I worked out a time line lol. I don't think that at that first episode they've been living together very long. and they might not even live alone together at that point, for some reason i've actually sort of thought maybe they had other room mates. But that's just me being imaginative, I have no evidence. But, I don't think Gavin just discovered that he was gay after the Jenny thing. I think he'd known for ages, and the Jenny thing hardly lasted long, and it was only to cover things up to his parents. Wasn't the Jenny thing when Gavin was 19? When he *just* turned 19? So, if he's 22 at the start of the show... that's 3 years to find Tim.

ahhh very good! Yeah three years is long enough to move intogether lol. I imagine Gavin the type that wants to settle down fast and Tim just the type to go along with it.

Tim's the type to get caught up in the emotions and want committment. I don't think they just randomly moved in though... though they might have. I guess it's up to your own imaginings... He could have met him like, a few months after Jenny for all we know, or even like, 6 months before the first episode... And for some reason i've always imagined that they just moved into the area together pretty soon before the first episode... but again, that's just imaginings, i have no proof.

yeah. well they definately knew each other before they worked there, and by the Tim says 'we get on well and spend alot of time together'... if they were just in the 'dating' phase, I doubt they'd try get their work schedule to fit around each others afternoons off.

Jenny may give the engagement as being 5 years plus when she would have 18. Gavin tells Laura IT WAS ALL A LONG TIME AGO! Jenny DOES suffer with her mental health. All the characters in the 'triangle' are played by actors who were older than early 20's at the time of recording that episode. Why can't the characters be a similar age to the actors and Jenny not actally be aware of how much time has passed while she's been in the psychiatric hospital. This would fit better with Gavin proposing at 19 and being late 20's when she's cured.
the age Julie gives Gavin on his 'death' is 36 and Tim states he and Gavin have been together for 10 years. This fits in better with Jenny's five years etc being inaccurate due to her state of mental health. Either that or the writers didn't think it through properly with they wrote it.
Personally I think Jenny got confused (as if you hadn't guessed). I don't think Gavin lied about his age. I think Tim is a couple of years younger, but that their behaviour, in the main, is mature enough for them to be early to mid 20's at the start of S1. They would also have had enough time to undertake relevant courses in fitness and lifesaving, and get some experience in other places before taking the jobs in Whitbury. I think T&G are an established couple who are committed and if they aren't living together then start living together fairly early on in the run. They are just excited about working together for the first time (although they may not see much of each other at the centre depending on where they are rota'd to), and looking forward to spending their time off together.

I agree Jenny could have getting things wrong as she probably wouldn't realise how long she was away for.

She could be. But, I'm always going to go with the younger hints of age. '5 years ago' is a long time ago if you're young. And, the being together 10 years thing makes sense as well, because how many years go by in the series? And personally, I think that the actors ages are nothing like the characters age. Giving actors characters with a totally younger age is done all the time on tv. But... your stuff makes sense too. I guess it's just a matter of preference as fans which you go for, since they never actually said, and a lot of it is very conflicting. I have always thought the 36 thing is total rubbish though. I don't mean that to offend you, it's just that the show's details get so wrong as time went on. I am almost positive that they were like 'hmn, how old is Gavin? Well, how old is Tim Marriot?' and then just made Gavin about that age, once again ignoring previous series and also logic. We all know that the writers seemed pretty horrendous with continuity. This is important for me for fanfics. So, I'm just going to continue on with my younger ages. Since I doubt we'll ever know.
