why i luv brittas ohhhh thats a hard one
ive allways luved clasic comedys "allo, allo" "are you being served" and "hi-de-hi" but brittas had a bit of something else something that made it that extra bit better with its macarbe sense of humour and brilliant actors it stuck in my mind even from a young age it was a highlight of my week to stay up till wat eva time (think it was 8:30) and watch the last eva in my opinion brilliant comedy to be made and they certainly saved the best till last well done brittas!!!!!!!!!!!

G'day,
I'm Kanna, and I found the first season DVDs - all there is out in Australia, sadly - the other day, and all my old obsession with the show came roaring back. Dug up all my old tapes and marathoned them.
It's still as funny as I remembered, and I can can remember, too, how important it was to me as a teenager to have Gavin and Tim there, just some visual reminder that there *are* 'married" same-sex couples out there. And for someone mostly-sapphic, I had and still have an alarming crush on Gavin. Always a sucker for someone who looks slightly worried when not actually smiling... and very nice eyelashes.
I've been searching the internet for ways to further the obsession and ran across this board, so I'm somewhat shyly popping up here and hoping it's still active.
I have a fanfic piece sitting there waiting to be put properly together, too, so I'm hoping a place to blather about the show we keep me focussed to complete it.

Don't be shy, we're all friendly here. Except maybe Donna Nah, we're all nice. Kind of. Well, you say you have fiction. You're my best friend already

Thanks so much for the welcome. I hate delurking posts, it's like walking into a room full of people who know each other and are already talking. ~blush~
Extra incentive to finish the story is good. ~nod~ I haven't written male/male for a very long time, and I'm nervous about it, for all it's all I once wrote. I suspect my lj friends are waiting patiently for me to get this out of my system and go back to female/female, but... there's just not enough Gavin/Tim out there. And I have horrible, evil Gavin/Gordon plut bunnies in the back of my mind somewhere, as well as a less evil craving for Helen/Carole. The final epsiode, mainly, and the fact that Carole seems to be the only person Helen really seems to break through her self-centredness enough to be fond of, even if she *did* try to kill her.

So no Laura/Brittas, then?

But she's in America with her horrible husband. Grr. The only thing I don't like about the Christmas special is that they couldn't come up with a better future for Laura than as an useless accessory for that prat Michael.
Should finish the V-Day ficlet I stopped when Valentine's Day finished before I was finished. Gordon can have a sweet and meaningful card from the US, if you like. ~comforts~

But never fear, you seem to be fitting in just perfectly Extra incentive to finish the story is good. ~nod~ I haven't written male/male for a very long time, and I'm nervous about it, for all it's all I once wrote. Tho' Laura/Brittas is my favourite, I'm also a fan of Tim/Gavin, (Enough to write my own piece) so I'm happy Gavin/Brittas is interesting, and the more I think about it, the more I like it. But Helen/Carole? Now that is something I would never have thought of, but something I would read all the same. *Sits and waits patiently for fic-ness*

I can't see Helen/Carole...but I can see Helen/Laura. That fits better in my mind, for some reason...

I can see where you're coming from with that, Donna... But I think it'd be one-sided slashness - Helen. I don't know...I just don't see Laura as a lesbian/bi. Not that I'm saying it wouldn't be a good thing I just don't think she was written in a way that would even hint on it.

*Nods* I know the exact feeling. But never fear, you seem to be fitting in just perfectly ~bounce~ I hope so! You all seem like such lovely people, but after all, how could Brittas fen be anything but? Ooh... link? Only as a little brief thing.... I'm too much of a softie otherwise. The thought of Tim and Gavin splitting up depresses me horribly, and I can only cope with the fights over the Deputy Manager thing in S5 by knowing that Gavin will come in all knight in shining armour and fix things in "Pregnant". But I like the idea of giving Tim at least *some* basis for all that insecure pouting in the last three series, and Gavin and Gordon develop quite a lot in common. And jealous, cranky Tim is adorable. I can't see Helen/Carole...but I can see Helen/Laura. That fits better in my mind, for some reason... I can see it from Helen's pov, yes, especially as she has a history of using sex to fix things and seems quite dependent on Laura at times. But I think that's why it's not something I'd write, really, because Helen already has too many crutches, and I don't think Laura would be rapt in the idea of being used as another. Helen/Carole works for me more as a threesome, although platonic on Gordon's side, than anything... Carole really needs positive attention more than anything, and some things in the last episode open the possibilities of a poly marriage. It's not like Gordon would notice, anyway.

Now that would be a chaotic relationship I see where you are coming from with Helen/Carole/Gordon, he has fathered children by both of them after all. I agree, he proberbly would'nt notice. I mean, he didn't even notice when Helen was leaving him, even though she had packed half the house into the car One thing that always made me wonder, with Linda saying "Oh, Mr Brittas can do lots of things well", was what exactly he could do well, and how she knew. Was there a dynamic between Linda and Brittas that we didn't know about perhaps?... Linda/Brittas anyone?
